I stepped on a piece of shell fragment on my way out of the icy Pacific Ocean. Dripping wet from my January swim, I bent down to pick up the colorful blue fragment of mussel shell. The beautiful patterns and pearlescent features of this thumb-sized bit of shell created a world of color and dazzling shine. I stood on the beach admiring the details. I set out to paint this canvas in the style of the inside of this shell, wanting to capture the cold blue of the ocean waters but tempered with the warmth I felt as the California sun shone through the clouds. This piece captures not only the aesthetic of the seashell, but the warm experience of a day at the beach with my loved ones.

This painting was created on a 1.5” thick canvas, with the painting continuing around the edges. It arrives unframed, ready to hang.
