I took a different approach with this Easter painting. Instead of painting a majestic sunrise or sweet scene of Jesus' followers visiting the tomb, I took a minimalist approach. I love majestic sunrises and sweet scenes by the way. The reason for the minimalist, even careless look of the painting is to capture the idea that the tomb with its stone rolled away isn't fully important in and of itself (although physical places do matter) - but the person of Jesus is the most important part. The real celebration, majesty , and sweetness is with Him. This painting simply shows where He once lay - an ordinary, beautiful place of basic earth and dirt. A place of significance where He triumphed over death, bringing resurrection to us all though Himself.
